The GeoGauge is a hand portable compaction QC/QA tool. It evaluates the quality of each compacted layer without delaying or interfering with construction. Evaluates compaction non-destructively, safely and quickly even near vibrating equipment for immediate results. Enables quick correction of problem areas while equipment is still on-site. GeoGauge allows contractors to control the compaction process to minimize over-compaction and damage of materials. Data can be downloaded to a PC for documenting, archiving and additional analysis.It is ideal for avoiding premature failures and to develop specifications directly relevant to performance.

GeoGauge evaluates the level of compaction via key and relevant in-place mechanical and material properties. Its dynamic operation principle simulates cyclic traffic loadings; accurately measures the material’s reaction under conditions representative of actual loadings. Measuring the deflection, GeoGauge displays the layer’s structural stiffness and the material’s Young’s/elastic modulus from the surface to a depth of 9to 12” (230 to 310 mm). Stiffness (a structure’s resistance to deflection) and Young’s modulus (a material’s resistance to deformation) are basic properties indicating how the engineered structure and material will perform. Measuring in-place directly links compaction with Performance Specifications.

Along with in-process QC/QA for subgrade and base compaction, key applications include:
  • Monitor and quantify the strength of lime, cement, fly-ash and polymer stabilized materials as the material cures to facilitate construction.
  • Control and improve uniformity within each layer for lower maintenance cost and longer life.
  • Duplicate stiffness properties of trench and utility backfills with surrounding undisturbed materials to improve durability.
  • Assess and confirm the quality and uniformity of bases to reduce asphalt surface failures.
  • Monitor for peak stiffness of the asphalt layer to reduce damage and wasteful effort.

The GeoGauge Stiffness/Modulus Gauge is supplied complete with carrying case, batteries and manual.
